Public bath history -Part 2-

Before the war, many houses did not have baths, so public baths were very useful. However, after the war, home baths began to spread, and public baths began to decline. Prices continued to rise, and many businesses went out of business.

Nowadays, especially in Tokyo, the number of shops that are stylishly renovated is increasing, attracting young people.

Speaking of public baths, there is a tall counter between the men’s and women’s dressing rooms, where you pay your fee. Recently, however, more and more people feel uncomfortable being seen naked by staff of the opposite sex, so many shops have set up their front desks outside of the changing rooms.
